Key facts
Account activation
As fast as 2 days
S.BLOX says that with the smartphone Kantan ID check (LIQUID eKYC) an account can open as soon as the day after you apply (counted here as within the next day, i.e. up to two days or 2,880 minutes). SMS verification has to be set up first, and the postcard route adds mailing time.

First crypto send-out
S.BLOX publishes no waiting period for new accounts. Once the account is open and a destination address is registered, you can request a send. Every send and every new address is confirmed with codes sent to both your email and your mobile by SMS (plus Google Authenticator if you've turned it on). Requests by 16:00 on a weekday are normally processed the same day; later or weekend/holiday requests on the next banking day.
Protections against fraud
- You can only send to addresses registered in advance, and registering one needs codes from both email and SMS.
- Each send goes through S.BLOX's approval, and checks required by law or its own standards can delay processing.
- Sends are capped at ¥50 million equivalent per 24 hours across all coins, with per-coin caps per send and per day as well.
- Sends to exchanges that can't be notified through Sygna Hub, or to overseas exchanges in FSA-designated countries and regions, aren't accepted at all.
Transfer rules
- Sending to your own (private) wallet
- Allowed
- What's required (Travel Rule)
- Destinations must be registered first: coin, label, address, destination type (Japanese or overseas exchange, or private wallet), destination name, its country, and whether the recipient is you (extra details if not). When sending you choose the purpose and the service. Travel Rule notices go through Sygna Hub, and XRP addresses need the destination tag.
- Destinations you can't send to
- Japanese exchanges not on Sygna Hub (bitFlyer, Coincheck, Crypto Garage, Binance Japan and others) and overseas exchanges in the 63 countries and regions designated by the FSA (as of 3 Aug 2026) can't be sent to.
Terms & conditions
- Ages 18 to 74 (no applications from under-18s or anyone 75+, and minors can't apply even with parental consent)
- Individuals living in Japan (foreign nationals can apply; residence-card holders must meet conditions such as 6+ months since entering Japan)
- One account per person, and your email and mobile number must not be used by anyone else's account
- You must not invest borrowed money
- No My Number submission needed (if you use a My Number card as ID, upload the front only)
- SMS verification must be set up before the ID check
- Anyone opening an account from 1 Jan 2026 must declare their tax residence country(ies) under CARF
Restrictions
- US taxpayers (US citizens, US residents, etc.), foreign PEPs and anyone linked to organised crime cannot open an account
- The application's declarations also exclude people who work for a crypto exchange
- Trading is sales desk only, market orders only, and orders can't be changed or cancelled. There's no fee, but the spread is the real cost
- JPY withdrawals cost ¥330 each (tax incl.), up to twice a day, from ¥1,000 per withdrawal
- Because of the Travel Rule, you can't send directly to bitFlyer, Coincheck, Crypto Garage or Binance Japan, or to foreign exchanges in the 63 countries and regions designated by the FSA
- No phone support: questions go through the contact form and are answered on weekdays 9:00–17:00
- The "Kantan" ID check is for individuals only and runs in a camera-equipped smartphone's browser; it's unavailable 3:00–6:00 on the second Thursday of each month
How to open an account
-
1
Create an account
Under "Create account" on the official site, enter your email and a password and agree to the terms of use, the pre-contract document and the privacy policy. After a security check, enter the code from the email to finish.
- Check the conditions first: aged 18–74 when applying, living in Japan, not a US taxpayer or citizen, not a foreign PEP, not investing borrowed money, and an email and mobile number that no other customer uses. Residence-card holders who don't work at an office in Japan must have been in Japan for 6+ months.
- On S.BLOX's website (www.sblox.jp) press 「アカウント登録」 and enter your email and a password (you can change the password after logging in).
- Open and read 「利用規約」, 「契約締結前交付書面(現物等)」 and 「プライバシーポリシー」, tick to agree and press 「アカウント登録」.
- Complete the security check as shown on screen and press 「確認」.
- On the email verification screen, enter the code sent to your address; that completes the account. If it hasn't arrived, check your spam folder.
Tip Check your spam folder too.
-
2
Set up SMS verification
Before the ID check, set up SMS verification with your mobile number: in the app under Settings > SMS verification, or in a browser under My Page > Security.
- SMS verification must be set up before you can apply for the ID check, and this phone will also receive codes for every later send and withdrawal.
- In the app: from the menu after login open 「各種設定」 → 「SMS認証」, press the 「ON/OFF」 button and enter a mobile number that can receive SMS.
- In a browser: open 「マイページ」 (top right) → 「セキュリティ」 in the left menu (on a phone browser, 「≡」 → 「セキュリティ」), press 「設定」 next to 「SMS認証」 and enter the number.
- Press 「送信する」 in the code field, enter the code you receive and press 「送信」. The countdown shows when you can request it again. If nothing arrives, check the number you entered.
- When the number appears, partly masked, under 「SMS認証」, the setup is done.
Tip You need your own mobile number that isn't used on anyone else's account.

Enter your details
On the identity verification screen (My Page in a browser, or via your user ID at the top of the app menu), enter your name, address and other basics and accept the declarations. Then fill in your occupation, assets and trading experience.
- Open the ID verification screen: in the app, the 「>」 next to your user ID at the top of the menu → 「本人確認のステータス」; in a browser, 「マイページ」 → 「本人確認」 (phone browser: 「≡」 → 「本人確認」). The application has three screens; each saves when you press 「次へ」, so you can stop and pick up later.
- On 「お客様情報の入力」 enter nationality/region, your name (family name, optional middle name, given name), katakana, romaji, date of birth, and postal code, prefecture, city, street and building. Use your real name as on your ID (not a former surname) and your current address exactly as on the ID. Fill in 通称名 only if your ID shows one.
- Under the declarations, tick 「以下全てに該当しません」 only after reading the list (overseas resident; under 18 or 75+; working for a crypto exchange; no investment experience and no grasp of how crypto trading works; investing borrowed money; US citizen, green-card holder or US resident; foreign PEP; US taxpayer; organised crime and more) and only if truly none applies.
- Declare your tax residence country (CARF), tick the agreement to the listed terms and 「私は以上の書類の内容を理解、同意したうえで本人確認を申請します。」, then press 「次へ」.
- On 「お取引に関する情報」 enter the purpose of trading, occupation, pre-tax annual income in units of ¥10,000 (type 300 for ¥3 million), the 取引限度額 figure, total financial assets and how you found S.BLOX, then tick your investment experience (FX, stocks, CFDs, futures and so on; several allowed). If a field is unclear, ask through the contact form rather than guess.
- Choosing no investment experience is allowed, but you must still understand how crypto trading works and its rules. Answer every item truthfully.
Tip Your name and address must match your ID document. If the address on it differs from where you live now, the account can't be opened.

Photograph your ID and face with "Kantan" ID check
Choose "Kantan ID check" and continue on your phone via the QR code or the emailed link. Photograph one of: driver's licence, My Number card, passport, driving history certificate or residence card — front, held in your hand, then back — and take a face photo, moving your face as instructed.
- On 「本人確認書類の提出」 choose 「かんたん本人確認」 as the submission method. It's for individuals only and unavailable during maintenance from 3:00 to 6:00 on the second Thursday of each month.
- Continue in a camera-equipped smartphone's browser via the QR code shown or the link in the email S.BLOX sends. Even if you applied on a PC or tablet, the submission is done after logging in on a phone.
- Use one of: driver's licence, My Number card, passport, driving history certificate, or residence card (foreign nationals). The capture runs on LIQUID eKYC from Liquid Inc., S.BLOX's contractor.
- Photograph the front of the document, the document held in your hand, then the back; then take a face photo and turn your face up, down, left and right as instructed.
- Tap 「次へ」 on the 「撮影完了」 screen; 「申込完了」 means the submission is done.
- Switching to the postcard route part-way discards everything entered for the Kantan check, so decide on the method before you start.
Tip Even if you applied on a PC or tablet, the photos are taken in a camera-equipped smartphone's browser.

If you choose the postal ID check
With the postcard route, upload two ID documents (or one plus a supporting document). After review a non-forwardable postcard arrives; enter its account opening code on the identity verification screen to finish.
- The postcard route is for people who'd rather receive mail at home, and for foreign nationals whose only document is a special permanent resident certificate.
- Upload two ID documents, or one plus a supporting document: a residence record without the My Number printed, a seal registration certificate, or a water or listed power-company electricity bill in your name showing your current address, all within 3 months. Foreign nationals put the residence card or special permanent resident certificate first.
- Photograph the originals in colour with a phone or camera; scans, photos of copies and edited images are rejected. Avoid shadows, blur, glare, fingers and cropped edges. JPG or PNG, up to 5MB each; both sides are needed for everything except the My Number card.
- If your driver's licence or My Number card has the organ-donation section filled in or signed, cover it (by masking the image or with paper or a sticky note) before taking the photo; otherwise it isn't accepted.
- On 「入力内容の確認」 check that your name and address exactly match the documents and that they're sharp and unexpired, then press 「申請する」.
- After review, mail with your account opening code comes by non-forwardable registered post to your registered address (the post office holds it for 7 days, and it can't go elsewhere). Log in, enter the code on the 「本人確認」 screen and send it to complete the opening.
Tip Foreign nationals who only have a special permanent resident certificate must use this route.

Review, then your account opens
You get the result by email after review. With the Kantan ID check, the account can open as soon as the day after you apply.
- S.BLOX reviews your details. With the Kantan check the account can open as soon as the day after you apply, though it can take longer.
- The result comes by email. With the Kantan check, that notice completes the opening; no mail is sent.
- If something doesn't match or needs extra checking, you'll be emailed; review it, correct the details and reapply.
- If the email says extra verification is needed, submit a document showing your income that fits your situation (withholding slip, two months of payslips, income certificate, tax notice, tax return, bank-book images and so on) and reapply.
- S.BLOX doesn't disclose its review criteria or the reasons for a decision.
Tip If something doesn't match or needs checking, you'll get an email; review it and reapply.

7
Deposit yen and buy
Transfer yen to your dedicated account shown on the "JPY deposit" screen, then buy on the sales desk. S.BLOX charges no deposit fee, but you pay your bank's transfer fee.
- In the app, tap 「日本円入金」 at the bottom after logging in; on a PC, 「資産管理」 (top right) → 「日本円入金」 in the left menu; in a phone browser, 「日本円入金」 from the top-right menu. Your own dedicated account appears under 「口座情報」.
- Read the notes on the screen and transfer from an account in your own name. Transfers in another name aren't credited, and getting the money back needs a recall (組戻し) and a fee. Bank transfer is the only method; S.BLOX charges no deposit fee (your bank's fee applies) and there's no upper limit.
- Deposits are usually credited at once, but not instantly from banks outside the Zengin 'more time' system or during bank maintenance.
- On the sales desk, pick a coin and buy by quantity or yen amount. Orders are market orders only and can't be changed or cancelled once placed. Minimums start at 0.00001 BTC; there's no trading fee, but prices include a spread.
- To withdraw yen later, first register a bank account in your own name. Withdrawals are limited to twice a day, from ¥1,000 each, up to ¥10 million per 24 hours, with a ¥330 fee each.
Tip Transfers from an account in a different name are not credited. Getting the money back needs a recall (kumimodoshi) through your bank, which costs a fee.
Application questions explained
What each question means and how to answer it accurately. Always answer truthfully. Answers that don't match reality lead to rejection or a frozen account.
Declarations ("none of the following apply to me")
- What it means
- Confirms that you are not: living abroad, under 18 or 75+, working for a crypto exchange, without investment experience and without understanding how crypto trading works, investing borrowed money, a foreign PEP, a US taxpayer or linked to organised crime, among others.
- How to answer
- Read each item and tick only if none of them truly applies. If even one applies, you can't open an S.BLOX account.
Purpose of trading
- What it means
- Required under Japan's anti-money-laundering law: what you will use the account for.
- How to answer
- Choose your real purpose. No option is "wrong" by itself.
Occupation
- What it means
- Used for identity checks and to judge whether your trading matches your circumstances.
- How to answer
- Pick your current occupation as it is. Whatever your situation, including having no income, honestly choose what is closest. If nothing fits, choose "Other" and type your occupation.
Annual income (pre-tax)
- What it means
- Helps the exchange judge whether your trading is within your means. S.BLOX's form asks you to enter the amount in units of ¥10,000 (e.g. "300" for ¥3 million).
- How to answer
- Enter your approximate pre-tax income. A low or zero income is fine to declare as it is. Overstating gives no advantage and can trigger follow-up checks later.
Total financial assets
- What it means
- Total savings, stocks, funds and similar. Real estate is normally not included.
- How to answer
- Declare the approximate total in your own name (not your family's).
How you came to S.BLOX
- What it means
- Asks how you came to use the service.
- How to answer
- Pick the real reason; there's no need to worry about it affecting the review.
Trading (investment) experience
- What it means
- Asks about your experience with stocks, FX, CFDs, futures and the like, and for how many years, to check you understand the risks.
- How to answer
- You can choose "no investment experience" if that's true; you must still understand how crypto trading works and its rules. Overstating experience gives no advantage.
Tax residence country
- What it means
- A filing for the international tax information exchange (CARF) that began on 1 Jan 2026: the countries where you must pay income tax.
- How to answer
- If you only pay tax in Japan, declare Japan only. If you also owe tax in another country, declare every such country. Ask a tax professional if you're unsure.
Tips for a smooth signup
- Use the Kantan ID check on your smartphone for the fastest route (account open as soon as the next day). The postcard route needs two ID documents.
- Applications are accepted only up to age 74. If you're 75 or older, consider exchanges with no upper age limit, such as bitFlyer, bitbank or GMO Coin.
- Before sending to another exchange, check that S.BLOX can send there; direct sends to bitFlyer, Coincheck, Binance Japan and some others aren't possible.
- Crypto sends requested by 16:00 on a weekday are usually processed the same day; later or weekend/holiday requests are processed the next business day.
