Key facts

Account activation

OKJ says the app's eKYC (IC-chip reading plus a face photo) lets you finish the application, ID check included, in as little as 5 minutes, but it publishes no typical time for the review that follows (you get an email when it starts). 16- and 17-year-olds can only use the postcard ID check, and their account isn't open until they enter the code from the postcard.

Limits

WhatLimit
Buying crypto
  • No per-order limit On the order book, the official trading rules list no maximum order size and no daily trading cap (「なし」) for all 47 JPY pairs, although an order that would move the price by more than 5% is restricted. The sales desk has a per-coin maximum per order (e.g. BTC 10, ETH 100, XRP 50,000). Source
Yen deposits
  • No per-order limit The official FAQ states there is neither a minimum nor a maximum deposit. You pay your bank's transfer fee, and deposits from MUFG Bank haven't been accepted since 1 April 2026. Source
Yen withdrawals
  • ¥100,000,000 per day From ¥1,000 per withdrawal up to ¥100 million per day. You can set your own 24-hour limit within ¥100 million; after changing it, withdrawals and sends are blocked for 30 minutes. Source
Sending crypto out
  • ¥300,000,000 per day Crypto sends are capped at ¥300 million equivalent per day (per OKJ's notice of the 10 March 2021 revision). The deposit/withdrawal page lists no per-send maximum (「なし」) for every coin. You can set a lower 24-hour crypto limit yourself in the security settings. Source

First crypto send-out

New accounts can't send crypto out for 10 days after the account opens, to prevent fraudulent transfers. After that, you fill in the recipient relationship, destination and purpose on the send screen and confirm with your trading password plus email and SMS codes.

Protections against fraud

  • To prevent fraudulent transfers, new accounts can't send crypto out for 10 days after the account is opened (since 11 September 2025).
  • Under OKJ's cooling period, withdrawals and sends are blocked for 24 hours after you change your mobile number, reset Google Authenticator or change your trading password.
  • After you change your 24-hour withdrawal limit, withdrawals and sends are blocked for 30 minutes.

Transfer rules

Sending to your own (private) wallet
Allowed
What's required (Travel Rule)
You can send to private wallets such as MetaMask, Ledger and SafePal. For every send you enter the network, the address (and memo/tag if needed), your relationship to the recipient (yourself, or another individual or company; for others, their country/region and name in katakana and Latin letters), the destination and the purpose, and tick the checks on OKJ's prohibited countries and foreign PEPs. You can optionally save an address as a 「信頼できるアドレス」 (trusted address). Notifications use Sygna Hub.
Destinations you can't send to
You can't send to Binance Japan, bitFlyer, Coincheck or Crypto Garage, which don't use the Sygna system. You also can't send to overseas exchanges regulated in "notification-target" countries (e.g. Coinbase, Bithumb), or to recipients who live in one of those countries (including the US, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Korea). Exchanges missing from the destination list must be checked with OKJ first.

How to open an account

  1. 1

    Sign up in the app

In the OKJ app (iOS/Android), tap "新規登録" (sign up) and enter your email. A screen then asks whether anyone has told you to open the account.

    1. Have ready: an NFC smartphone and an IC-chip ID showing your current address (My Number card, driver's licence, driving history certificate, residence card or special permanent resident certificate). Foreign nationals must use a residence card or special permanent resident certificate.
    2. Install the OKJ app (iOS/Android), tap 「新規登録」 (sign up), enter your email and tap 「続行」 (continue). On a PC, start from 「新規登録」 on the official site and choose 「個人のお客様」 (individual).
    3. The next screen asks whether a stranger on the phone or someone you met on social media told you to open the account. If not, choose 「受けていません 申請を続ける」 (no – continue) and tap 「確認」 (confirm).
    4. If someone has told you to open this account, cancel the application. OKJ warns that every such instruction is a scam.
    5. 16- and 17-year-olds can't use the app's eKYC and must take the postcard route. Prepare the parental consent form (template available during signup), a document showing your relationship to the guardian, and two of the guardian's ID documents in advance.

Tip OKJ warns that if a stranger on the phone or someone you met on social media told you to open an account, "these are all scams". In that case choose "受けています 申請を取消" (yes, cancel the application).

  2. 2

Accept the key documents and set a password

Read the terms, privacy policy and spot-trading explanation, tick "I will not give my account details to a third party" and agree. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email, then your password twice.

    1. Read the key documents and warnings (terms of use, privacy policy, spot-trading explanation and so on), tick 「私は第三者に口座情報を渡しません。」 (I won't give my account details to anyone else), tap 「同意する」 (agree) and then 「確定」 (confirm).
    2. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email and tap 「続行」 (continue).
    3. Enter your password twice, tap 「→」, then go on to 「基本情報を入力する」 (enter basic information).
    4. Giving your account details or password to anyone else is prohibited and can drag you into fraud.
  3. 3

    Link your mobile number

Enter your mobile number, then the 6-digit codes sent by SMS and by email.

    1. Tap 「電話番号認証」 (phone verification), enter your mobile number and tap 「認証コードの送信」 (send code).
    2. Enter the 6-digit code sent by SMS.
    3. Then tap 「コードを取得」 (get code), enter the 6-digit code sent to your registered email as well, and tap 「確認」 (confirm).
    4. On a PC, choose your country under 「設定」 (settings) and verify in the same way with your number plus the SMS and email codes.
    5. If you change your mobile number later, withdrawals and sends are blocked for 24 hours to protect your assets.
  4. 4

Scan your ID's IC chip and take a face photo

Under "本人確認" (ID check), choose your nationality, enter the card details (date of birth, expiry year and a code), then scan the IC chip with your phone and take a face photo (eKYC; no postcard). Accepted: My Number card, driver's licence, driving history certificate, residence card or special permanent resident certificate.

    1. Go to 「本人確認」 (ID check) → 「個人情報」 (personal information), choose your nationality and tap 「次へ」 (next). If you applied on a PC, scan the on-screen QR code with your phone and continue via 「eKYCへ」 in the app.
    2. Enter the card details: date of birth, expiry year and a code. The code is the 4-digit number under the photo on a My Number card; the two 4-digit PINs set when a driver's licence was issued (a police station can confirm them); or the 12-digit number at the top right of a residence card or special permanent resident certificate.
    3. Tap 「読み取りを始める」 (start reading), hold the card to your phone's reading spot and keep it still until it finishes. Remove phone and card cases, and use a good connection.
    4. A card-reading error usually means the date of birth, expiry year or code was mistyped. If repeated wrong PINs have locked the card, contact the card's issuer.
    5. Tap 「撮影を始める」 (start camera) and take your face photo. If it looks fine, tap 「確認」 then 「はい」 (yes); to retake it, tap 「再撮影」.
    6. If the chip can't be read, you can choose the slower postcard ID check instead: upload two ID documents (one with a photo) and a photo of yourself holding your ID, then finish by entering the code from a postcard sent to you later.

Tip The "code" depends on the card: the 4-digit security code under the photo on a My Number card; the two 4-digit PINs set when a driver's licence was issued (a police station can check them); or the 12-digit number at the top right of a residence or special permanent resident card. If you applied on a PC, you do this step in the phone app via a QR code.

  5. 5

    Enter your personal details

Enter the katakana reading of your name, gender, residence and postcode, and tick the declaration (that you are not a foreign PEP, a US taxpayer, linked to organised crime, etc.).

    1. Enter your name in katakana, choose your gender and residence, and enter your postcode.
    2. Read the declarations (that you are not a foreign PEP or a family member of one, a US taxpayer, linked to organised crime, etc.) and tick them only if they are all true, then tap 「保存」 (save). If any isn't true for you, don't tick it; contact OKJ instead.
    3. US citizens and US residents (including green card holders), foreign PEPs and their families can't open an account.
  6. 6

Answer the purpose, experience, occupation and asset questions, then submit

Choose your purpose, how you found OKJ, years of investment experience, occupation, annual income, financial assets and whether you are an insider, then tap Submit.

    1. Choose your purpose of trading and how you found OKJ.
    2. For stocks, margin trading, FX/CFDs, foreign currency and crypto, pick your years of experience from 「なし」 (none) to 「5年以上」 (5+ years), then tap 「保存」. 「なし」 is fine if you have no experience.
    3. Choose your occupation (job title is optional), then the income and financial-asset bands that match your own actual situation.
    4. Say whether you're in a position to obtain inside information about crypto assets (an information holder). If you answer 「はい」 (yes), select the coins concerned and give the reason.
    5. Check that every section shows 「完了」 (complete), then tap 「確認」 and 「提出」 (submit) to finish the application.

Tip See "Application questions explained" below for what each question means.

  7. 7

    Review

After you submit, an email confirms your application is under review. OKJ publishes no typical review time. If something needs checking, it may contact you by phone or email.

    1. After you submit, an email titled 「口座開設に伴う審査受付のお知らせ」 confirms that the review has started. OKJ publishes no typical review time.
    2. If no email arrives, check that you pressed 「提出」 and look in your spam folder. If that doesn't help, use the contact form (there's no phone line).
    3. If something needs checking, OKJ may contact you by phone or email.
    4. If you used the postcard route (including all 16- and 17-year-olds), enter the 6-digit code from the postcard in the app under 「簡単3ステップで取引開始」 → 「本人確認(住所確認中)」 to finish.
    5. For 10 days after the account opens, crypto can't be sent out, to prevent fraudulent transfers.

    Deposit yen and buy

Transfer to the account shown in the app, from the bank account in your own name that you registered beforehand. OKJ charges no deposit fee, but you pay your bank's transfer fee. On the sales desk you can buy by yen amount.

    1. In the app, tap 「入金」 (deposit) → 「日本円入金」 (yen deposit) on the top screen to see the account to pay into; you can copy the details (on a PC: 「資産管理」 → 「日本円入金」 → 「振込入金」).
    2. Always pay from the bank account in your own name that you registered with OKJ; transfers from unregistered accounts can take longer to credit, and deposits from MUFG Bank are refused (returned to you). You pay your bank's fee; there's no minimum or maximum deposit.
    3. Register your own bank account under the top-left icon → 「銀行口座情報」 (bank details). This needs a trading password, which is separate from your login password and created under 「セキュリティ設定」 (security settings), plus email and SMS (or Google Authenticator) codes.
    4. To buy on the sales desk: tap 「販売所」 on the top screen → choose a coin → 「購入」 (buy) → enter an amount or quantity → 「確認」 → check and tap 「確定」.
    5. To buy on the order book, first transfer yen from your 「入出金口座」 (deposit/withdrawal account) to your 「取引口座」 (trading account); it's free and instant. Funds for the sales desk stay in the deposit/withdrawal account.
    6. For security, also set up Google Authenticator under 「セキュリティ設定」; without it or SMS, codes go to your email.

Tip To trade on the order book, first move funds from your "deposit/withdrawal account" to your "trading account" (free). New accounts also cannot send crypto out for 10 days.

Declaration: not a foreign PEP, US taxpayer, etc.
What it means

Foreign PEPs are foreign heads of state, ministers, speakers, supreme court judges, ambassadors, senior military officers, central bank officers and their families (current or former); Japanese politicians are not included.
How to answer
Most people qualify; read it and tick. If any item applies to you, don't tick it: OKJ cannot open accounts for foreign PEPs or US taxpayers.

Official explanation

Official explanation

Residence (country of tax residence)
What it means
At OKJ, "residence" means the country where you pay income tax as a resident. Under the CARF tax-information exchange that began in January 2026, new accounts must declare their tax residence when applying.
How to answer
If you live and pay tax in Japan, choose "Japan". If you also have a tax residence elsewhere, you must declare it too. Without the filing the account won't be opened, and a false filing carries penalties.

Tips for a smooth signup

  • An NFC smartphone plus a My Number card (or driver's licence) lets you use app eKYC with no postcard wait.
  • If the IC chip won't read, you can choose the postcard ID check: upload two ID documents and a photo of you holding your ID, then enter the 6-digit code from a postcard sent by registered, non-forwardable mail after review. It's slower, but works from a PC too.
  • 16- and 17-year-olds should prepare the parental consent form (template downloadable during signup), a document showing the relationship (e.g. a resident record listing the parent) and two ID documents for the guardian before starting.
  • The order book is usually cheaper than the sales desk: the desk charges no fee, but the buy/sell spread is the real cost.
  • With no phone line, help means the FAQ and the web form. If you want phone support, consider other exchanges.
