Key facts
Account activation
Binance Japan gives no official "as fast as" figure. Its beginner guide says the ID check itself usually takes a few minutes, and submissions are usually reviewed within 48 hours (sometimes longer), with the result sent by email. Japanese nationals using the My Number card IC-chip method need no selfie; other documents, and foreign nationals, require document photos plus a selfie and liveness check.
Limits
| What | Limit |

| Sending crypto out | No published limit |
First crypto send-out
Binance Japan publishes no waiting period that applies to every new account. Once your ID check is approved you can send crypto out, but each withdrawal needs a Travel Rule declaration and a fraud-prevention questionnaire, and it can't proceed until they're done. After certain security changes, such as a new password, withdrawals pause automatically for 24–48 hours.
Protections against fraud
- After certain security changes, such as changing your password, withdrawals are suspended for 24–48 hours to protect your assets. The pause lifts automatically and can't be shortened.
- Before a withdrawal you must answer a fraud-prevention questionnaire about the nature, purpose and origin of the transaction. Incomplete answers lead to follow-up questions, and the withdrawal can't proceed until they're done.
- Withdrawals to addresses flagged as high-risk show a warning, and suspicious patterns can trigger a temporary cooldown on withdrawals (assets are not frozen permanently).
- If unusual activity is detected, withdrawals can be paused, with a message to try again after 24 or 48 hours.
- If you've turned on the optional withdrawal whitelist, changing or switching it off can pause withdrawals for 24, 48 or 72 hours.
Transfer rules
- Sending to your own (private) wallet
- Allowed
- What's required (Travel Rule)
- Withdrawals to self-custody wallets such as MetaMask are allowed. For each withdrawal you declare whether the address is yours or someone else's (if someone else's: individual or company, name in kanji, katakana and Latin letters, country and city), the destination type (an exchange from the list or a self-custody wallet) and the purpose, then confirm with 2-step verification. Addresses saved in the address book pre-fill these answers, and you can optionally prove you own a wallet with a small "Satoshi test" deposit.
- Destinations you can't send to
- Because of Travel Rule regulation, you can't withdraw to other Japanese crypto exchanges. Only exchanges shown in the withdrawal screen's list can be chosen. Sending to pay for imports or intermediary trade is prohibited.
Terms & conditions
- This guide covers only accounts with Binance Japan Inc. (FSA-registered). The app is the global "Binance" app, but accounts for Japan residents are opened by Binance Japan and limited to its coins and services
- 18 or older (terms of use)
- No upper age limit in the eligibility terms (though it isn't stated as "no limit" in so many words)
- Japan residents only. If you move abroad or also have a tax residence outside Japan, you must tell Binance Japan promptly
- You must not already hold a Binance account (one per person)
- Foreign nationals verify by photographing a residence card. The My Number–integrated residence cards issued since 14 June 2026 can't be used yet
- The signup doesn't ask you to submit your My Number
Restrictions
- US persons, and anyone who holds or held a US taxpayer ID, cannot use it
- Foreign politically exposed persons (PEPs) cannot use it
- Binance.com features such as futures, and any coin or service Binance Japan doesn't offer, are not available
- Support is by in-app/web chat only (no phone line is offered). An AI bot answers first, then a human agent (daily 9:00–1:00 JST, Japanese or English)
- Only 27 coins have JPY pairs on the order book (as of June 2026)
- PayPay Money deposits are capped at ¥1M per 24 hours and ¥2M per 30 days; sales plus withdrawals have the same caps. PayPay Money Lite can't be used
- Transfers via payment services such as Wise or Revolut may not be credited; always pay in from a Japanese bank account in your own name
How to open an account
-
1
Get the Binance app (or use the website on a PC)
Japan uses the same global "Binance" app (App Store name "バイナンス:ビットコイン/暗号資産(仮想通貨)を購入"). On a PC, use binance.com/ja.
- Get the official 「Binance」 app from the App Store or Google Play. To avoid look-alike fake apps, open the store page from the official website's download page.
- On a PC, go to binance.com/ja. You can sign up and verify in the browser too, and for the ID check you can scan a QR code to continue the photos on your phone.
- Accounts for people living in Japan are opened by Binance Japan. If you have a Binance.com account that never completed verification, Binance says not to continue with it but to create a new Binance Japan account.
- Have ready: an email address or phone number, and an ID (Japanese nationals: My Number card, driver's licence or driving history certificate; foreign nationals: residence card). The My Number card method also needs the card's signature-certificate password (6–16 characters).
Tip Beware of fake apps. Use the official site's download page or the official store listing (App Store developer: "Binance Switzerland AG"). Your Japanese account itself is run by Binance Japan Inc.
-
2
Register with email or phone
Create a Binance account in the app or on the web using your email address or phone number.
- In the app, tap 「登録/ログイン」 (sign up/log in) → 「Binanceアカウントの作成」 (create account) and choose a personal account. The account type can't be changed later.
- Enter your email address or phone number (Apple, Google or Telegram accounts also work), read and tick the terms of use and privacy policy, then tap 「次へ」 (next).
- Enter the 6-digit code you receive within 30 minutes.
- Create a password of 8–128 characters with at least one uppercase letter and one number.
- If you came via a referral link, the code is filled in automatically; it can't be changed once linked, and you can skip it if you have none. When registration is done, you're taken to the ID check.
Tip If you ever made a Binance.com account, check with chat support before creating another: the terms require that you don't already hold a Binance account. (The official FAQ says Binance.com accounts that never completed verification should start fresh with Binance Japan.)
-
3
Tap "今すぐ認証", confirm Japan as residence and choose your nationality
After logging in, start the ID check from [今すぐ認証] (Verify now) on the home screen. On the verification screen, check that residence shows "Japan (日本)", choose your nationality and continue. Continuing means accepting Binance Japan's terms and privacy notice; from here on you are applying for a Binance Japan account.
- After logging in, tap [今すぐ認証] (verify now) on the home screen. You can also start from the profile icon at the top left → [アカウント] → [認証センター] (verification centre).
- Check that the country of residence shows 「Japan(日本)」. Your residence and nationality must match your ID document.
- Choosing your nationality and continuing means accepting Binance Japan's terms of use and privacy notice; from here you're applying for a Binance Japan account.
- Foreign nationals verify with a residence card. The My Number–integrated residence cards and special permanent resident certificates issued since 14 June 2026 can't be used yet.
Tip Your residence and nationality must match your ID document.
-
4
Choose an ID-check method
Recommended: "マイナンバーカード(ICチップ)" — enter the card's signature-certificate password and scan the card (no selfie; currently Japanese nationals only). The other option, "身分証明書と容貌の撮影" (ID and face photos), has you photograph the front, top edge and back of a driver's licence, My Number card or driving history certificate (issued on or after 1 Apr 2012) — foreign nationals use a residence card — then take a selfie and a liveness check.
- [マイナンバーカード(ICチップ)] (Japanese nationals only for now): you're taken to the JPKI+ App Clip. Read the fraud warning, enter the signature-certificate password (6–16 characters) and hold the card to the top of the back of your phone until it's read. No selfie or liveness check is needed.
- When reading finishes you're returned to the Binance app. If this method doesn't work for you, you can switch to the standard photo method.
- Photo method: choose the document (Japanese nationals: My Number card, driver's licence or driving history certificate; foreign nationals: residence card) and photograph three sides: front, top edge and back. On a PC, choose [電話で認証] (verify on phone) and scan the QR code to take the photos on your phone.
- Then take a selfie and complete the face liveness check. Allow camera access, don't wear a hat or glasses or use filters, and shoot somewhere bright.
- Don't refresh the browser while it's processing. You can try up to 10 times a day; if 10 attempts are rejected within 24 hours, wait 24 hours before trying again.
Tip The My Number method needs the signature-certificate password (6–16 characters). The photo method must be finished within 60 minutes or you start again.
-
5
Enter your name
Japanese nationals enter their name in kanji, katakana and roman letters; foreign nationals in roman letters, their local script and the katakana used on their bank account. Use the same order as on your ID.
- Japanese nationals enter their name in kanji, katakana and Latin letters; foreign nationals in Latin letters, their local script and the katakana registered on their bank account. With the My Number card method, you enter the katakana and Latin-letter name after the card is read.
- Use the same name order as on your ID.
- Your katakana name must match the bank account and PayPay you'll use character for character. If it doesn't, deposits, withdrawals and the PayPay link fail, and you can't fix it yourself later (you'd need to re-verify or contact support).
Tip Your katakana name must exactly match your bank account and PayPay. Otherwise deposits, withdrawals and the PayPay link fail, and you can't change it yourself later (you'd need support).

Answer 8 questions and submit
Answer questions on purpose, main source of income, occupation, industry, financial assets, investment experience and insider status, then the PEP/tax-residence declaration, and submit.
- Questions 1–6: purpose of using Binance, main source of income, occupation, industry, total financial assets you hold personally, and areas of investment experience. Answer for yourself only, not your family, based on your actual situation.
- Question 7 (declaration): whether you or your family are foreign politically exposed persons (PEPs) or insiders, and where you live. Answer truthfully.
- Question 8 (tax declaration for CARF): if Japan is your only tax residence, tick the statement saying so. If you're also tax-resident elsewhere, don't tick it; follow the on-screen instructions to declare it. Tell Binance within 90 days if this changes.
- Tap [提出] (submit) to send your application. You'll be notified by email when the review is done.
Tip See "Application questions explained" below for what each question means.
-

Review (usually within 48 hours), then set up 2-step verification
Submissions are usually reviewed within 48 hours and the result arrives by email (sometimes longer). Once approved, set up 2-step verification, such as a passkey or an authenticator app.
- Submissions are usually reviewed within 48 hours, sometimes longer. The result comes by email.
- While you wait, set up 2-step verification: profile → [セキュリティ] (security), then add an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator), a passkey (biometrics), SMS and so on. Binance recommends an authenticator app or passkey over SMS.
- Write down the 16-character backup key shown when you set up the authenticator app and keep it somewhere safe; you'll need it to recover access if you lose your phone.
- Changing your password or other security settings suspends withdrawals for 24–48 hours to protect your assets.
- You can also set an anti-phishing code and a withdrawal whitelist (optional).

Deposit yen, or buy with PayPay
For a bank transfer, send to the GMO Aozora Net Bank or docomo SMTB Net Bank account shown (no Binance deposit fee; you pay your bank's fee; usually credited within an hour on weekdays). Or link PayPay and buy directly on the sales desk from ¥1,000 using your PayPay balance.
- Bank transfer: on the home screen tap [資産の追加] (add funds) → [日本円入金] (deposit yen), choose GMO Aozora Net Bank or docomo SMTB Net Bank, and note the payee details and sender name shown.
- Pay from a Japanese bank account in your own name, entering the sender name exactly as shown. Otherwise the deposit isn't credited automatically. Transfers via payment services such as Wise or Revolut may not be credited.
- There's no deposit fee (you pay your bank's charge), and money is usually credited within an hour of arrival on weekdays. Your deposit limit is shown on the deposit screen and can't be raised.
- PayPay: the first time, agree to link PayPay in the app (both accounts must be verified and the katakana names must match). You can pre-deposit with PayPay Money (¥110 each, up to ¥1 million per 24 hours and ¥2 million per 30 days) or buy directly on the sales desk with your PayPay balance. PayPay Money Lite and PayPay Points can't be used.
- To buy: on the sales desk (Convert), choose the pair, enter an amount within the minimum and maximum shown, and confirm at the quoted price. You can also place orders on the order book.
Tip Enter the sender name exactly as shown on the deposit screen, or the deposit won't be credited automatically.
Application questions explained
What each question means and how to answer it accurately. Always answer truthfully. Answers that don't match reality lead to rejection or a frozen account.
Residence and nationality
- What it means
- Asked at the start of verification. Residence shows "Japan (日本)" and you choose your nationality; continuing means accepting Binance Japan's terms.
- How to answer
- Choose the nationality shown on your ID. People who don't live in Japan can't use Binance Japan.
1/8 Purpose of using Binance
- What it means
- Required under Japan's anti-money-laundering law. Options include investing in crypto, trading on Binance, trading on other exchanges, online shopping, crypto transfers/payments, business use and long-term holding (the list continues below).
- How to answer
- Choose your real main purpose. If you plan to buy and hold, "investment" or "long-term holding" fits.
2/8 Main source of income
- What it means
- Where your money comes from. Options include salary or business income, investment gains, savings, inheritance, donations, rental income and crypto-mining profits (the list continues below).
- How to answer
- Choose what actually applies. If yours (a pension, say) isn't visible, scroll through the whole list. There's no need to make your situation look bigger.
3/8 Occupation
- What it means
- Used for identity checks and to judge whether trading fits your circumstances. Options include company employee, executive, civil servant, self-employed, medical/legal professional, part-time worker and homemaker (the list continues below).
- How to answer
- Pick the option closest to your current situation, honestly.
4/8 Industry
- What it means
- Choose your employer's industry from a list (agriculture, arts and media, car sales, pachinko/gambling, construction and infrastructure, education, and more).
- How to answer
- Choose your actual employer's industry; if self-employed, your own business's.
5/8 Total financial assets you hold personally
- What it means
- The total of your savings, stocks, funds and similar (real estate is normally excluded). Bands run from "under ¥1M" and "¥1,000,000–¥2,999,999" up to "¥20,000,000–¥49,999,999".
- How to answer
- Choose the honest approximate total in your own name (not your family's). Overstating gives no advantage.
6/8 Fields where you have investment experience (multiple choice)
- What it means
- Checks your understanding of the risks. Options include stocks, margin trading, corporate bonds, investment trusts and futures/options (the list continues below).
- How to answer
- Select only fields you've actually invested in. If you have no experience at all, scroll the whole list and choose what's true. The eligibility terms set no experience requirement, and overstating gives no advantage.
7/8 Insider status
- What it means
- Whether you could know price-moving non-public information, e.g. as an officer or employee of a coin issuer or exchange. The "内部者とは" link on the screen explains it.
- How to answer
- If not, choose "いいえ、私は内部者ではありません。" (no); if you are, choose "はい、私は内部者です。" (yes) and declare it honestly.
7/8 Insider status
8/8 Declaration (foreign PEP status, tax residence)
- What it means
- Two tick boxes: "Neither I nor my family are foreign PEPs" and "I live in Japan and my tax residence is Japan only". The second is for the CARF international tax-information exchange. Tell Binance within 90 days if anything changes.
- How to answer
- Tick both only if true. Foreign PEPs can't use Binance Japan. If you also have a tax residence outside Japan, don't tick the box; ask support instead.
Tips for a smooth signup
- If you're a Japanese national with a My Number card, the IC-chip method is easiest. Check your signature-certificate password (6–16 characters) beforehand; your city office can reset it.
- Enter your katakana name exactly as on the bank account and PayPay you'll use.
- The Binance app has a lot going on. Start small with PayPay purchases or the sales desk; the desk charges no fee, but the buy/sell spread is the real cost.
- For people living in Japan, the only Binance service is FSA-registered Binance Japan (Binance.com ended its Japan service on 1 Dec 2023).
- From 1 Apr 2027, a rule change is due to abolish online ID checks that send photos of your ID and face. Being ready to use the My Number card method is the safest bet.
Recent changes
- Guide published, including PayPay Money deposits/withdrawals (¥110 each, from April 2026) and the expansion to 66 coins in June.
